Tips For Septic Tank Maintenance

What You Should Do

• Pump regularly to avoid system failure
• Space Your showers, laundry, and dishwasher loads
• Run full loads of dishwashers and washing machines
• Use bacterial additives such as Bio-Clean to keep septic working properly
• Keep standpipes properly capped. Mark their locations if cut low or flush with ground
• Fix leaking faucets, sinks and toilets
• Use water saving devices
• Call Alpine Septic Pumping if you notice slow drains, poorly flushing toilets or sewer coming out of stand pipes

What You Should Not Do

• DO NOT put grease down your drains. Wipe out pans and skillets with paper towels before washing
• DO NOT put anything other than toilet paper or wastewater down toilets or drains
• DO NOT use chemical drain cleaners, chlorine bleach, or automatic toilet cleaners
• DO NOT plant anything other than grass over your leachfield or drainfield
• DO NOT compact leachfield or drainfield by heavy foot or vehicle traffic
• DO NOT use your garbage disposal. If you use it you must pump yearly
• DO NOT ignore the warning signs that your septic may be failing
